• Research focuses on the breeding of fast-growing woody species, preservation of deciduous, woody species gene resources and tree seed management
• breeding of deciduous tree species deals with inventory, reproduction and subsequent breeding and use of gene resources of endangered, native, and deciduous tree species; breeding methods for maintaining endangered woody species in forest stands and for improving biodiversity
• forest tree seed management research focuses on (i) factors influencing the quality of forest tree seeds during storage and pre-sowing treatment, (ii) developing new methods for determining the quality and health of forest seed, (iii) the quality of Scots pine and European larch seeds from seed orchards, and (iv) the study of pre-sowing preparation of forest shrub seeds
• Extension, testing, consulting and publishing service covers gene sources, seed storage, pre-sowing treatment, seed quality testing, maintenance of clonal archives of deciduous woody species for preserving valuable and endangered genotypes and also as a source of tested reproductive material for fast-growing woody species and material for further breeding and evaluation for their potential use as energy
